Start Over! Coalition

The Start Over Coalition is based on a simple response to the complex issue of health care costs and coverage.  The Coalition, which consists of hundreds of groups, trade associations and companies, believes the health care proposals approved by the House and Senate, and advocated by President Obama, are all far too costly and misdirected. The members of the Coalition believe that we need to address the escalating costs of health care, and the desire to provide health insurance to all Americans, without imposing a massive new bureaucracy, new taxes, and new regulations which could strangle economic growth.

One of the foremost Congressional analysts of existing health care legislation, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, has demonstrated that the real cost of the existing health care proposals will be more than $2.3 trillion over the next decade. He reaches that figure by doing the math honestly, rather than ignoring major expenses that have been shifted, as a matter of political convenience, into other legislation or into the final years of the year plan.

The Start Over Coalition argues that instead of continuing down a path that may bankrupt our government, reduce our ability to buy the insurance we need or access physicians we favor, and create in the process a huge new federal bureaucracy, we should begin, again, to address health care in small but effective steps.

We don’t need new taxes, new mandates and government orders. We do need common sense, a higher regard for deficit reduction and greater innovation as we approach the task.

Therefore, it is time to START OVER!  Call or write your senators and representatives and insist that they reject the current health care legislation and proposals of the Congressional majority. Tell them that you want real reform, real savings and real choice. Tell them that reform must consist of more than declarations that there is only one way to achieve our goals. Insist that we find better choices.

Tell your representatives, in other words, that it is time to Start Over on health care and this time, to get it right. Send your letter to your representatives now.
