Canadian Steel and U.S. Steel and Aluminum Service Center Shipments Increase Substantially in March

U.S. service center steel shipments grew substantially across the board, along with Canadian service center steel shipments. Canadian aluminum shipments were off only slightly. Metal inventory numbers improved for both countries.

U.S. Service Center Activity

In March 2017, U.S. service center steel shipments increased by 9.7% from March 2016. Steel product inventories decreased 6.1% from March a year ago.

In March, U.S. service center shipments of aluminum products increased by 13.0% from the same month in 2016. Inventories of aluminum products increased 1.0% from March a year ago.

Canadian Service Center Activity

In March 2017, Canadian service center shipments of steel products increased by 7.4% from March 2016. Steel product inventories decreased 2.0% from March a year ago.

In March, Canadian service center aluminum shipments decreased 2.7% from the same month in 2016. Inventories of aluminum products decreased 2.0% from March a year ago.
