Congress Sends MSCI-Supported Technical Education Bill To President’s Desk

The U.S. Senate passed H.R. 2353, the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act last week on a voice vote, sending it to President Donald Trump’s desk for his signature. The House approved the bill in June.

The bill completely overhauls the nation’s career and technical education programs by:

  • Giving states more flexibility about to use their federal dollars;
  • Supporting innovative learning opportunities, building better community partnerships, and encouraging stronger engagement with employers;
  • Streamlining performance measures to ensure career and technical education programs deliver results;
  • Reducing administrative burdens and simplifying the process for states to apply for federal resources; and
  • Providing parents, students, and stakeholders a voice in setting performance goals.

As a reminder, in June, the Metals Service Center Institute joined the National Association of Manufacturers and more than 500 other trade associations and companies in sending a letter to Republican and Democratic leaders in the Senate asking them to support the bill.
