“Get to Work” Says Metals Service Center Institute

Rolling Meadows, Ill., Jan. 6, 2014 – M. Robert Weidner, III, president and CEO of the Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI), congratulated members of the 114th Congress, who took their oaths of office today, and reminded them why their constituents elected them.

“The election was just two short months ago, but with the excitement of the holidays and the transitions going on in Washington, I hope the members of this new Congress have not forgotten why they were sent to the nation’s capital,” said Weidner. “The mandate coming out of last November’s election was for action. Americans want lawmakers to quickly address the uncertainty that’s plaguing our economy and preventing businesses from creating new jobs, increasing wages and providing better benefits.”

Among MSCI’s priorities for the 114th Congress: comprehensive tax reform that makes the tax code simpler and more fair for both corporations, small businesses and families; an immigration reform bill that secures the border and builds a skilled workforce that can compete in a 21st century economy; and a national energy policy that produces steady, reliable and affordable energy from all domestic sources. MSCI will also fight to reform the regulatory process and include provisions in all trade-related legislation that address currency manipulation.

“It’s time to get to work on the issues Washington has put off for too long,” said Weidner. “Federal lawmakers must resist the temptation to let Election 2016 maneuvering and partisanship take over – they must work collaboratively with each other and the White House. Lawmakers that choose to pass meaningful legislation that will restore our economy and improve the livelihoods of all Americans – those are the lawmakers that will be rewarded by the constituents who they took an oath to faithfully represent today.”
