Global Economic Analysis and News of Note

  • Industrial production in India increased 2.6 percent from January 2014 to January 2015. The reading was higher than the 1.7 percent advance analysts had expected.
  • Meanwhile, led by an 8.8 percent expansion in Ireland, Eurozone industrial production increased 1.2 percent between January 2014 and January 2015, but fell 0.1 percent from December 2014 to January 2015. (Year-over-year output was up 1.6 percent in France and one percent in Germany.) Analysts had predicted a modest rise in production for the month.
  • Auto sales in China increased 8.7 percent in the first two months of 2015 from the same point last year. Sales of American-made brands, including Ford and General Motors, increased while sales of the Japanese-made Nissan brand fell.
