Global Economic Analysis and News of Note: Chinese Growth Slows

  • The Chinese economy expanded at 6.7 percent annualized rate in the first quarter of 2016, the country’s slowest rate of growth since 2009. Despite the less healthy reading, new loans, retail sales, industrial output and fixed asset investment readings were all better than analysts had expected. Specifically, industrial output rose 6.8 percent from 5.4 percent in the previous quarter.
