Global Economic Analysis and News of Note: Chinese Steel, Aluminum Shipments Down In October
- According to American Metal Market (subscription required), due to higher domestic prices, exports of finished steel from China fell three percent between September 2017 and October 2017 and 35 percent between October 2016 and October 2017. Shipments for the first ten months of 2017 were down 30 percent from the same period a year before.
- American Metal Market also reported last week that Chinese exports of unwrought aluminum and aluminum products fell 5.4 percent between September 2017 and October 2017. Shipments were flat year-over-year, but were 4.1 percent higher for the first 10 months of 2017 compared to the same period the year before.
