Global Economic Analysis and News of Note: Global Troubles Weigh On German Manufacturing

  • “[I]n a sign that a global trade slowdown is weighing on Europe’s largest economy,” the German government announced last week that factory orders in the country fell 1.2 percent from January 2016 to February 2016, but were up 0.5 percent from the previous February. ING Diba Chief Economist Carsten Brzeksi said, “Against the background of potential new uncertainties, the outlook for the German industry remains anything but rosy … [N]ew orders were another piece of evidence that the German industry is treading water, as it is suffering from a cooling of global activity.” Export orders were down 2.7 percent for the month while domestic orders increased 0.9 percent.
