Global Economic Analysis and News of Note: Industrial Production Up
- In a reading that was better than analysts had predicted, the Office of National Statistics said industrial production in Great Britain expanded two percent from March to April, its largest monthly gain in nearly four years. Manufacturing activity was up 2.3 percent, its best showing since July 2012. Production in ten of 13 manufacturers sectors expanded in April. Overall industrial production was up 1.3 percent between April 2015 and April 2016.
- Industrial production in Germany increased 0.8 percent in April (analysts had predicted a 0.5 percent rise). Manufacturing output rose 1.1 percent while construction production declined 1.7 percent.
