Global Economic Analysis and News of Note: Steel Production Down In China, Expected To Fall Again In 2018
- The Chinese Association of Automobile Manufacturers announced last week that automobile sales in the country increased just 1.4 percent from 2016 to 2017. Sales had risen 15 percent from 2015 to 2016. The Associated Press said, “Chinese demand has weakened as economic growth slowed and Beijing and other major cities tightened restrictions on car ownership to curb smog and congestion.”
- Factory output in the United Kingdom increased 0.4 percent from October 2017 to November 2017 and overall industrial production rose by the same amount.
- Factory orders in Germany fell 0.4 percent between October and November, but were up 8.7 percent between November 2016 and November 2017.
