Global Economic News Of Note: China’s Trade Surplus With United States Soars
- Chinese officials announced last week that the nation’s trade surplus with the United States totaled $80.4 billion in the first four months of 2018, up from $50 billion during the same period in 2017. The trade surplus for April alone was $22.2 billion, up from $15.4 billion in March. Total exports from China increased 21.5 percent from April 2017 to April 2018.
- Aluminum and steel exports from China both increased last month, Reuters Exports of aluminum products and unwrought aluminum rose 0.2 percent from March to 451,000 tons while steel exports jumped 14.7 percent from March to 6.48 million tons.
