How Does Your State’s Business Tax Climate Rate?

Readers of the Metals Service Center Institute’s (MSCI) advocacy materials are well aware that the United States has one of the highest (and therefore most uncompetitive) corporate tax rates in the world. That’s why MSCI supports cutting marginal rates for all businesses, whether C-corps, S-corps, or other pass-through entities.

What is less understood is how state taxes impact a company’s ability to do business. That’s why we urge our members to take a look at the Tax Foundation’s State Business Tax Climate Index, which enables business leaders, government policymakers, and taxpayers to gauge how their states’ tax systems compare. The Index is designed to show how well states structure their tax systems, and to provide a roadmap for improvement.

According to the Foundation, the states with the healthiest business tax climates are:

  • Wyoming
  • South Dakota
  • Alaska
  • Florida
  • Nevada
  • Montana
  • New Hampshire
  • Utah
  • Indiana
  • Oregon
