Metal Shipments Increase in January
Metals shipments increased substantially in January, both in the United States and Canada for aluminum and steel.
U.S. Service Center Activity
In January 2017, U.S. service center steel shipments increased by 9.4% from January 2016. Steel product inventories decreased 8.3% from January a year ago.
In January, U.S. service center shipments of aluminum products increased by 8.3% from the same month in 2016. Inventories of aluminum products increased 1.2% from January a year ago.
Canadian Service Center Activity
In January 2017, Canadian service center shipments of steel products increased by 5.7% from January 2016. Steel product inventories decreased 5.8% from January a year ago.
In January, Canadian service center aluminum shipments increased 10.3% from the same month in 2016. Inventories of aluminum products increased 0.7% from January a year ago.
