Metals Service Center Institute Applauds Trump’s Trade Team

Rolling Meadows, Ill., Jan. 4, 2017— M. Robert Weidner, III, president and CEO of the Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI), issued the following statement today on President-elect Donald J. Trump’s selection of Robert Lighthizer to be U.S. Trade Representative, Peter Navarro to direct the National Trade Council, and Wilbur Ross to be U.S. Commerce secretary:

“President-elect Trump has assembled a remarkably strong trade team that has a deep understanding of the manufacturing industry and that knows how federal government action, or inaction, impacts industry workers, the entire supply chain, communities, and the American economy. Because Navarro, Lighthizer, and Ross recognize that for trade to be free it must be fair, we are hopeful that they will argue for strong enforcement of our trade laws, for robust action to address currency manipulation, and for new tools to address the global steel and aluminum glut driven by Chinese overproduction. MSCI will enthusiastically support Ross and Lighthizer’s nominations, and looks forward to working with President-elect Trump’s top trade officials as they advocate for the policies needed to spur a resurgence in the North American industrial metals supply chain.”
