Metals Service Center Institute’s Mid-South Chapter Awards Scholarships to Two Regional Students 

ATLANTA, Georgia, July 23, 2004 – The Mid-South Chapter of the Metals Service Center Institute has awarded $1,250 scholarships to two students whose fathers are employed by chapter member companies.

 

One scholarship goes to Rebecca Marie Dilloway, of High Point, North Carolina, daughter of Brian Dilloway, account manager for Olympic Steel’s facility in Winder, Georgia. Dilloway has maintained a 4.0 grade point average and plans to attend the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, in the fall. “Rebecca has an outstanding academic record and is an unselfish, giving young lady, as demonstrated by participation in an impressive list of activities and community service,” said Nelson Burger, director of procurement, Siskin Steel Company, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and a member of the selection committee.

The second scholarship goes to Jesse Smith, Guyton, Georgia, son of Donald Smith, transportation manager for Chatham Steel, Savannah. Smith has maintained a 4.0 grade point average and plans to attend Georgia Southern University this fall. “Jesse is an impressive young man,” said Don Hohman, general manager, Ryerson Tull, Inc., Chattanooga, Tennessee, a member of the selection committee. “His numerous academic achievements and his demonstrated giving of himself and time to others in need are exemplary.

Selection committee members also included Tom Bell, regional manager, Petersen Aluminum Company,Kennesaw, Georgia, and Maryemily Slate, sales and marketing manager, Nucor Corporation, Decatur,Alabama. All were unaware of applicant names and their company affiliations during the selection process.

Founded in 1907, the Metals Service Center Institute has more than 350 members operating from about 1,200 locations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and elsewhere around the world. Together, MSCI members constitute the largest single group of metals purchasers in North America, amounting each year to more than 75 million tons of steel, aluminum, and other metals, with about 300,000 manufacturers and fabricators as customers. Metals service centers distribute metals and provide first-stage fabrication services.
