MSCI Chapters Award 37 Scholarships to College Students

ROLLING MEADOWS, Illinois– Metals Service Center Institute chapters, in a program to support students from metals industry families, awarded 2005-2006 college scholarships to 37 young men and women with a parent who works for an institute and chapter member company. The grants, which totaled more than $87,560, were awarded by 11 chapters in Canada and the United States.

“The scholarship program is one of the very best activities that our chapters have undertaken,” said Bob Weidner, MSCI president and chief executive officer. “I am delighted that additional chapters will launch scholarships this year. We are very proud of this program and of the financial aid we supply to these capable students.”

The chapter scholarships ranged in size up to $6,250. MSCI’s national organization matches up to $2,500 of scholarship value for each chapter every year.

Chapters awarding scholarships for the current academic year included South Atlantic (three scholarships totaling $6,250, including the national contribution); Mid-South (five grants totaling $10,000) Central States (three for $17,500); Florida (seven for $22,000 over a four-year period); New England (two for $5,000); Philadelphia (two for $6,000); Ontario (four for $5,800); Northern California (one for $2,000); Northern Ohio (five for $5,000); Texas (two for $5,000); and Inland Northwest (three for $3,000).

Chapters fund their scholarships in a variety of ways, often using the proceeds of a golf tournament or a similar event to raise the scholarship money.
