MSCI Honors Sen. Joe Manchin, Democrat Of West Virginia

Last Thursday, Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI) Vice President of Finance and Government Affairs Jonathan Kalkwarf presented U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) with MSCI’s Congressional Leadership Award.

Kalkwarf said, “MSCI is proud to give its Congressional Leadership Award to Sen. Manchin for his work on behalf of the metals industry in the 113th Congress. In particular, Sen. Manchin is a leader on energy issues. He understands an all-of-the-above energy policy is necessary to keep U.S. manufacturers competitive globally and we are grateful for his votes to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline and to oppose costly Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emissions rules.” The award presentation took place at Huntington Steel & Supply, a family-owned and operated steel service center with 83 employees and operations in Huntington, W. Va., Morgantown, W. Va. and Pikeville, Ky. (Huntington Steel & Supply is a member of MSCI.)

Sen. Manchin said, “I stand beside MSCI in its efforts to oppose the EPA’s regulatory overreach, which will not only cost many hard-working West Virginians their jobs, but will also reduce the reliability of the nation’s power grid and substantially increase costs for American job creators in all industries.”

MSCI established its Congressional Leadership Award ten years ago to recognize elected representatives who demonstrate a commitment to the health and well being of its members and its members’ manufacturing customers.

Kalkwarf concluded, “In a city where too many lawmakers never deviate from the party line, Sen. Manchin is one of the few we can count on to put American consumers and job creators above partisan politics. We appreciate his courage and commitment to strengthening our industry and the U.S. economy.”
