MSCI Praises President-Elect Donald Trump’s Trade Team
President-elect Donald Trump rounded out his international trade team last week, announcing on Tuesday his nomination of Robert Lighthizer to be U.S. Trade Representative. The president-elect had previously announced that Dr. Peter Navarro will lead the newly announced National Trade Council and his nomination of Wilbur Ross to be U.S. Commerce Secretary. (Lighthizer’s and Ross’s nomination must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate while Navarro’s does not.) The Metals Services Center Institute issued a press statement after President-elect Trump announced his nomination of Lighthizer.
President and CEO M. Robert Weidner said, “President-elect Trump has assembled a remarkably strong trade team that has a deep understanding of the manufacturing industry and that knows how federal government action, or inaction, impacts industry workers, the entire supply chain, communities, and the American economy. Because Navarro, Lighthizer, and Ross recognize that for trade to be free it must be fair, we are hopeful that they will argue for strong enforcement of our trade laws, for robust action to address currency manipulation, and for new tools to address the global steel and aluminum glut driven by Chinese overproduction. MSCI will enthusiastically support Ross and Lighthizer’s nominations, and looks forward to working with President-elect Trump’s top trade officials as they advocate for the policies needed to spur a resurgence in the North American industrial metals supply chain.”
