National Association Of Manufacturers: Manufacturers Optimistic, But Concerned About Regulations, Rising Health Care Costs

Last week the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) released its fourth quarter survey of manufacturers. NAM and its partner IndustryWeek found:

  • More than 91 percent of manufacturers said they are feeling positively about their own company’s outlook for the coming year;
  • More manufacturers expect to hire more workers in 2015 than did at this time last year and manufacturers also said they expect sales to increase 4.5 percent over the next 12 months;
  • Nearly 83 percent of manufacturers said reducing the federal regulatory burden should be the top policy for the 114th Congress;
  • More than 77 percent of manufacturers said rising health care and insurance costs are their primary business challenge. (Indeed, 83 percent of respondents said their health insurance premiums will increase by five percent or more in 2015 while nearly 51 percent said their costs will increase by 10 percent or more.)
