Senate Confirms Emanuel To National Labor Relations Board
The U.S. Senate last week confirmed William Emanuel on a 49-47 vote to be the fifth member of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). With Emanuel’s confirmation and with Marvin Kaplan’s in August, there is now a 3–2 Republican majority on the NLRB until December, when Chairman Philip Miscimarra’s term expires.
The Coalition for a Democratic Workplace (CDW), which the Metals Service Center Institute is a member of, sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Sept. 22 calling for approval of Emanuel’s nomination. The letter, which can be found here, argued, “Emanuel is extremely qualified to serve as a member of the Board and has the expertise to ensure the Board remains true to its mission of enforcing the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and serving as a neutral arbiter of labor law.”
