Shipment Declines Continue in December

Shipments declined from 2014 levels in December for both steel and aluminum in the U.S. and Canada at roughly the same rates as last month. Inventory levels continue to decline, slowly coming into line with current shipment levels.

U.S. Service Center Activity

In December 2015, U.S. service center steel shipments decreased by 11.4% from December 2014. Steel product inventories decreased 16.2% from December a year ago.

U.S. service center shipments of aluminum products in December decreased by 3.5% from the same month in 2014. Inventories of aluminum products decreased 3.3% from December a year ago.

Canadian Service Center Activity

In December 2015, Canadian service center shipments of steel products decreased by 19.2% from December 2014. Steel product inventories decreased 21.7% from December a year ago.

Canadian service center aluminum shipments in December decreased 16.7% from the same month in 2014. Inventories of aluminum products decreased 16.0% from December a year ago.
