Shipments Decline Continues

Shipments declined from 2014 levels in October for both steel and aluminum in the United States and Canada at faster rates than last month. Inventories declined for steel in the United States and Canada. Aluminum inventories declined in Canada but rose slightly in the United States.

U.S. Service Center Activity

In October 2015, U.S. service center steel shipments decreased by 14.0% from October 2014. Steel product inventories decreased 4.2% from October a year ago and decreased 3.0% from to last month.

In October, U.S. service center shipments of aluminum products decreased by 8.1% from the same month in 2014. Inventories of aluminum products increased 0.9% from October a year ago.

Canadian Service Center Activity

In October 2015, Canadian service center shipments of steel products decreased by 18.3% from October 2014. Steel product inventories decreased 12.3% from October a year ago.

In October, Canadian service center aluminum shipments decreased 15.5% from the same month in 2014. Inventories of aluminum products decreased 7.2% from October a year ago.
