Shipments Increase in May After April Declines
Metal shipments continued to display an every-other-month growth pattern with healthy growth in both the United States and Canada in May.
U.S. Service Center Activity
In May 2017, U.S. service center steel shipments increased by 7.0% from May 2016. Steel product inventories decreased 4.5% from May a year ago.
In May, U.S. service center shipments of aluminum products increased by 11.5% from the same month in 2016. Inventories of aluminum products increased 2.1% from May a year ago.
Canadian Service Center Activity
In May 2017, Canadian service center shipments of steel products increased by 6.8% from May 2016. Steel product inventories decreased 3.5% from May a year ago.
Canadian service center aluminum shipments in May increased 3.3% from the same month in 2016. Inventories of aluminum products decreased 2.2% from May a year ago.
