Why Scholarships?

In the words of an MSCI scholarship recipient, the program is "deeply meaningful."

The data is in: This year MSCI national and its chapters awarded 342 families with scholarships worth more than $766,000. Since the scholarship program first began in 2004, nearly $5 million has been awarded to children of MSCI members' employees.

Courtney Maloney, a student at the University of California in San Diego, is one such student. She is interested in working with the elderly community and is currently participating in the Medical Student Training in Aging Research Program funded by the National Institutes of Health. There she's researching the use of iPad applications in reducing agitation in inpatient seniors with dementia.

In her words:

COURTNEY MALONEY

These scholarships have allowed me to focus on my schoolwork, academic research, extracurricular activities, and philanthropic pursuits instead of having to take on multiple jobs. The financial benefit has been substantial, as I have received the MSCI Scholarship five times. During my undergraduate years I was able to complete school without taking any educational loans. This has been especially important because after graduating from UC Berkeley, I went on to medical school.

“Beyond the financial support, this scholarship has been deeply meaningful due to the underlying support and confidence in me that this scholarship signifies. I am honored and proud to have the support of the MSCI and I aspire to live up to all of their hopes for me.”

Scholarship applications are beginning to open. To learn more about the scholarship program available from your chapter, visit the website: scholarships.msci.org.
