What to Wear

What to Wear

During the day, business/resort casual sportswear is appropriate attire for our business sessions. This includes khaki slacks, polo-style shirts or sweaters for the gentlemen; slacks, skirts, polo-style shirts, blouses, sundresses or sweaters for the ladies. Remember meeting room temperatures and personal comfort zones vary widely. It is recommended that you bring a sweater or jacket to the sessions.

No black-tie formal events are scheduled.  Evening attire varies depending upon the function.

The Sunday Welcome Party will be held outdoors, weather permitting. It calls for casual and comfortable clothing. Jackets are not required for the gentlemen. Sweaters and slacks are appropriate for the men and the ladies.  Low-heeled shoes are recommended.

Monday evening’s Dinner Dance is business casual.  Jackets for the gentleman are preferred, ties are optional; dresses, skirts or slacks are appropriate for the women.

Tuesday evening’s reception and dinner is planned to be outdoors and will be fun and casual.  Low-heeled shoes or wedges are recommended.  Jeans are acceptable.  Surf’s Up!  Wear your favorite Hawaiian Shirt!

Brigadier General Becky Halstead, United States Army, Retired & president, STEADFAST Leadership, LLC

Becky Halstead, retired Brigadier General, United States Army founded her own leader consultancy company, STEADFAST Leadership, LLC, following 27 years of service in the U.S. military and her role as Executive Director for a leadership consultancy company.

Becky has over 15 years of executive‐level leadership experience, developing and training high-performing, complex and diverse teams capable of strategic planning and execution. She has a proven record of leading change, building successful teams in demanding environments (Afghanistan and Iraq, Germany, South America), and creating innovative solutions, systems and programs to complex problems. She is an experienced leader and logistician, a highly effective communicator, and a strategic planner with exceptional organizational skills.

Becky is a 1981 graduate of the United States Military Academy and achieved an historic milestone as the first female graduate of West Point to be promoted to General Officer. She was the senior Commanding General for logistics in Iraq, and was the first female in U.S. history to command in combat at the strategic level. In this capacity she was responsible for leading over 200 multi‐disciplined units (20,000 military and 5,000 civilians) located across 55 different bases, providing supply, maintenance, transportation and distribution support to over 250,000 personnel serving in Iraq.

Becky honorably served with the U.S. Army and retired as a General Officer in 2008. The culmination of her career came in 2006 when she became the first female Chief of Ordnance and Commanding General of the Army’s Ordnance Center and Schools (equivalent to President of a University), responsible for the leader development and institutional training for the second largest branch in the army with over 100,000 members of the Ordnance Corps.

During active service, she served in Europe as the Deputy Commanding General (Chief Operating Officer) for the 21st Theater Support Command and has experience leading a multi-national team in wholesale level logistics operations. Prior to Europe, she served as the Chief Advisor to the Combatant Commander (Four Star General) for Southern Command, whose responsibility encompassed military training and operations for South America. She was also responsible for coordinating directly with high‐level organizations such as Office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Department of State, U.S. Congress, U.S. Ambassadors and equivalent foreign military and civilian organizations.

Becky earned a B.S. in Engineering from West Point, an M.S. in National Resource Strategy (Advanced Manufacturing) from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University, and an M.S. in Advanced Military Studies (Visionary Leadership) from the Army Command and General Staff College.

She is a member on the Board of Advisors for multiple organizations: Principal Solar, the Thayer Leader Development Group, Vet R.E.S.T., and Patriot Project. Becky is an active spokesperson for the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress with specific focus on military health care. She is also a member of the Gordian Institute; a team of accomplished thought leaders and problem solvers. Becky is a recipient of the 2007 National Women’s History Project award for “Generations of Women Moving History Forward.” From 2009 to 2010, Becky served as a Commissioner on the President’s Military Leadership Diversity Commission. In 2011, her leadership model was a focus of a Harvard Business School Case Study.

Peter Hart, president, Peter D. Hart Research Associates

Peter Hart’s work has been key in determining the future for some of the most influential corporations and politicians in the country. One of the top analysts in the United States, he is a leading shaper of national trends and political messages. The National Journal named Hart one of its 150 national leaders who shape federal government policy, lauding him as “probably the foremost Washington pollster for the Democratic Party and its centrist candidates.” His organization, Peter D. Hart Research Associates, has conducted strategy planning projects for clients such as IBM, Coca-Cola, and Tiffany & Co. Political clientele have included Hubert Humphrey, Jay Rockefeller, Edward Kennedy, Bill Clinton, and Bob Graham.

Hart will take a fun, interactive look at the latest polling data, sharing nonpartisan insights with you about the key changes, trends, demographic information, and top issues you need to know. Our nation is in a period of rapid-fire changes, and Hart has the ability to put it all in context, determining which numbers matter (and which don’t) and how it will play out on the national stage.

Since 1971, Hart has served as chairman of Peter D. Hart Research Associates, and he has been a pollster for NBC News and the Wall Street Journal since 1989. In the political realm, he has represented more than 55 United States Senators and 40 governors. Additional focuses on public policy and cultural issues have included work for such clients as the Smithsonian Institution, Habitat for Humanity, UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Kennedy Center. In the international realm, Hart Research has conducted studies in South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Acclaimed Expertise. Sometimes called the dean of this generation of pollsters, he has covered election night news for either NBC or CBS since 1964.

In 2002, Hart was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to Campaign Consulting by the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC). He also appears frequently on Meet the Press, TODAY, and Rock Center with Brian Williams. Over the past decade, Hart has worked to spot society’s newest directions and trends. Along with Dan McGinn, he has worked closely with major companies such as 3M and CitiGroup to help them navigate consumers’ everchanging attitudes and expectations. For the past 30 years, he has been a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow. He has taught public opinion and public policy at Duke University, the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of California, Berkeley. Additionally, he was a Shorenstein visiting fellow at the JFK School at Harvard University.

Jack A. Hockema, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Kaiser Aluminum

Jack A. Hockema is Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mr. Hockema has served as Chief Executive Officer since October 2001 and Chairman of the Board of Directors since July 2006. Mr. Hockema also served as President from October 2001 to December 2015. Previously, Mr. Hockema served as Executive Vice President of Kaiser Aluminum and President of Kaiser Aluminum Fabricated Products. In this capacity, he was responsible for sales and manufacturing operations for the company’s Engineered Products business unit and the Flat-Rolled Products business unit. He had also previously served as Vice President and President of the Company’s Engineered Products business unit. Prior to joining Kaiser in 1995, he was the principal in a metals industry management consulting and investment advisory firm and had held senior executive positions with Bohn Extruded Products, a division of Gulf+Western, and American Brass Specialty Products. In addition, he had previously been employed by Kaiser (from 1977 to 1982) in production/operations management positions at several Company locations. He holds a Master of Science degree in Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, both from Purdue University.

Edward J. Lehner, president and chief executive officer, Ryerson

Edward J. Lehner is president and chief executive officer of Ryerson, a leading value-added processor and distributor of industrial metals, with operations in the United States, Canada, Mexico and China. Eddie began serving as Ryerson’s CEO in June 2015 after having served as Ryerson’s executive vice president and chief financial officer since 2012.

Prior to joining Ryerson, Eddie served as the chief financial officer of PSC Metals, Inc., a diversified metals company, and before that, as the chief financial officer of SeverCorr, LLC., a primary steel manufacturing company headquartered in the southern United States.

Eddie’s career also includes senior general management, operational, financial, accounting, tax and consulting roles for Nucor, Birmingham Steel, Inc., Laurel Steel and Deloitte.

Eddie has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Metals Service Center Institute effective July 1, a non-profit association serving the industrial metals industry. Eddie also served on the Board of Directors of Modumetal Inc., and The Mississippi State Workforce Investment Board, and he is a member of the Financial Executives International (FEI).

He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati and is also a Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.).

Robert F. Wescott, Ph.D., president, Keybridge Research LLC

Robert F. Wescott is President of Keybridge. Dr. Wescott has more than 30 years of professional experience working on macroeconomic, financial, and public policy issues. He served for four years as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy at the National Economic Council at the White House and as Chief Economist at the President’s Council of Economic Advisers.

From 1994-98 Dr. Wescott was Deputy Division Chief in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund, where he did research on global economic risks and policy challenges. He also was an official in the Fund’s European Department. From 1982-93, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Economist at WEFA Group (today IHS Markit, Inc.), a private economic modeling and analysis firm, where he was responsible for all economic modeling, forecasting, and consulting operations.

In 1989-90, he was the first Research Director at the International Centre for the Study of East Asian Development (ICSEAD) in Kitakyushu, Japan. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Peter Zeihan, president, Zeihan Geopolitics

Important Deadlines and Policies

A full refund will be issued for cancellations received in writing by MSCI by 5:00 pm Tuesday, October 1, 2019.  Cancellations received in writing by MSCI by 5:00 pm before Monday, October 21, 2019, will receive a refund of 50% of registration fees paid. No shows and cancellations received after that time will not be eligible for refunds. Substitutions may be made at any time. Written cancellations or substitutions will be accepted by contacting Briana Dee.

Activity registration deadline is Tuesday, October 1, 2019.  No refunds on cancelled activities or golf will be issued after this date as we are obligated to provide guarantees to our vendors.

Content Policy

The content  (including, but not limited to, slides, charts, video-clips, etc. ) presented at MSCI conferences is proprietary and presented solely for the benefit of conference attendees. The conference content should not be disseminated or re-transmitted in any way (e.g. electronically, via audio tape, etc.) to the public or third parties.

Entertainment Policy

Entertainment and/or company meetings should never be scheduled at the same time as official MSCI business or a social event.  This includes breakfast sessions, business sessions, and evening group functions.  MSCI recommends that company entertainment be planned prior to the opening or following the conclusion of Aluminum Products Division Conference.  Please respect MSCI’s policy in extending and accepting invitations.

Registrant/Participant Image and Voice Agreement

Registration for attendance and/or participation at MSCI Conferences and other associated activities constitutes an agreement by the registrant to permit MSCI’s to use and distribute (both now and in the future) the registrant or participant’s image or voice in photographs, videotapes, electronic reproductions, audiotapes or other digital or electronic recordings of such event and activities.
