Giovanny and Alissa will share their personal career journeys, offering valuable insights into what it’s like to be a Hispanic professional in the Metals Industry today. Giovanny Martinez, Operations Manager joined Olympic Steel as an intern in 2015. He graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering Technology. Giovanny was brought on board full time as a Quality Technician, quickly took on more challenges and became the Safety Coordinator for the Schaumburg division. In 2017, he grew into the Fabrication Department Lead role and after was promoted to Plant Manager in 2020. In June 2022, Giovanny Martinez was promoted to Operations Manager with the new expansion facility in Bartlett.
Alissa Rosario, Area Manager, Human Resources and Labor Relations at Cleveland-Cliffs Indiana Harbor. Alissa began her career as an intern in 2007. She hired as a full-time team member in 2009 as an Associate Representative in Human Resources. Alissa has held positions of increasing responsibility in both Human Resources and Labor Relations at two of Cleveland-Cliffs largest plant sites, Indiana Harbor and Burns Harbor. In her current role as Area Manager, Alissa has site-wide responsibility for all Human Resources and Labor Relations functions at the Indiana Harbor plant. Alissa has a Bachelor of Science in Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language and Literature from Purdue University, as well as a Master of Business Administration from Purdue University Northwest. Alissa also retains certifications as a SHRM-Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and a Professional in Human Resources (PHR).
