Leadership Lessons from Women in Our Industry

Inviting everyone to hear the career journeys of two General Managers from Samuel, Son & Co. Ltd. (Samuel). Mattie Sheely, General Manager of the Service Center facility in Hermitage, PA and Daniela Todaro, General Manager of the Service Center facility in Cambridge, ON will share more about how they began in the metals Service Center industry, what made them stay and their experiences as a women working in a male dominated industry. They will share their perspectives on what helped them be successful and what organizations and leaders can do to empower women and other under-represented groups to build and grow meaningful careers in the metals industry.

Madeline “Mattie” Sheely
Mattie Sheely is the General Manager for Samuel Service Center facility located in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. Mattie has held this position for more than 30 years beginning her career at Samuel in Erie, PA. She is a strong coach and actively works to develop the next generation of leaders at Samuel. Her passion for nature draws her to everything “green” and she is very active in reducing waste and environmental concerns. She is very proud to head up our Samuel Communities group and is thrilled knowing we are giving back to the local communities we work in. She co-founded FOHAT, a foundation to raise awareness and help educate others of opioid addiction. Mattie also pursues with the same passion her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, artist and gardener.

Daniela Todaro
Daniela Todaro is the General Manager for Bothwell Steel a division of Samuel Son, & Co., Ltd in Cambridge Ontario a role that she has held since August 1, 2020. She began her career in the metals industry in 2004, and has held positions serving as Sales Manager, Purchasing and Inventory Manager, Product Manager, Production Supervisor, Logistics & Customer Care Specialist. She currently sits on the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Advisory Board at Samuel, Son & Co., Ltd. and the Association for Women in the Metal Industry (AWMI) Toronto Chapter Board as Vice President and formerly served as Treasurer. Daniela has a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and recently completed the Leading with Finance course through Harvard Business School. She is a mom of two very active children and enjoys reading, learning new skills, and mentoring aspiring women leaders in her community.
