Global Trade, Economic News: Duties On Canadian Steel Upheld

Here is the latest economic and trade-related news from around the world:

  • As MetalMiner reported, the U.S. Court of International Trade has rejected a challenge to the United States’ Section 232 duties on Canadian steel. A subsidiary of the Calgary, Canada-based company Endurance Technologies, Inc. had filed a complaint challenging the “constitutionality and lawfulness of duties imposed on re-imported steel tubing.”
  • The Japanese government has requested World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute consultation with China regarding anti-dumping measures imposed by China on certain Japanese stainless steel products. The request was circulated to WTO members on June 15, 2021. Read more here.
  • Mexico’s Ministry of Economy has promised to investigate a U.S. government complaint that workers at an auto parts plant in the state of Tamaulipas may have been denied collective bargaining rights.
