MSCI, Partners Support Important Infrastructure Program

The Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI) recently joined the National Association of Manufacturers and several other organizations in submitting comments to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regarding its Nationwide Permitting program (NWP), which authorizes certain activities under the Clean Water Act and the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899.

The comments are in response to a September 2020 announcement from the Corps that said the agency was proposing to reissue its existing NWPs and proposing to issue five new NWPs. MSCI and its partners support these moves.

As the comments, available here, explain, this program is an “essential tool” for “facilitating the development of critical, resilient infrastructure that helps communities thrive.” The letter also said the program is important because it “leads to increased investments in infrastructure, which in turn, creates jobs and sets off a positive ripple effect across a diverse workforce,” including in the manufacturing industry.
