President Trump Signs Executive Order Limiting Federal Regulations

On May 19, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that instructs federal agencies to cut back on what he called “unnecessary regulations that impede economic recovery.” The president argued reducing regulations would help American businesses return to normal after shutting down or curbing operations to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The president also asked agencies “to review the hundreds of regulations we’ve already suspended in response to the virus “and make these suspensions permanent where possible.”

The executive order also establishes a “Regulatory Bill of Rights,” a set of 10 principles that the president says will make the regulatory enforcement and adjudication process more fair and give businesses the confidence they need to invest and expand.
