U.S. House Democrats Launch Manufacturing Working Group

On March 18, U.S. House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.) and Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) launched the House Democratic Manufacturing Working Group, a new body within Congress that will examine key issues related to strengthening the U.S. manufacturing sector.

The group’s mission will be to drive economic recovery and ensure that manufacturers, especially small and medium firms, can compete globally. It also will explore efforts to increase supply chain security, worker training, and environmental sustainability. Majority Leader Clyburn said, “Now is not the time for our nation to fall behind in manufacturing the technologies of the future. As we work to recover from a devastating pandemic, we must rebuild a leading manufacturing economy.”

The group’s three major areas of focus will include:

  • Workforce development, economic recovery, and access to capital;
  • Climate and sustainability; and
  • Trade, access to markets, and the Export-Import Bank.
