Steel Shipments Down Modestly as Aluminum Edges Up
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill
MSCI Metals Activity for July 2025 reveals signs of stabilization in North American metals shipments. While U.S. steel shipments fell 2.8% year-over-year, aluminum showed a slight uptick of 0.3%. Canadian service centers also saw a narrower decline in steel shipments at 1.5%, and aluminum shipments rose by 2.6%. These results mark a potential shift in momentum after months of broad-based contraction, particularly for aluminum products.
U.S. Service Center Activity
U.S. service center steel shipments in July 2025 were -2.8% (seasonally adjusted) from July 2024. Shipments of aluminum products were 0.3% (seasonally adjusted) from the same month in 2024.
Canadian Service Center Activity
Canadian service center steel shipments in July 2025 were -1.5% (seasonally adjusted) from July 2024. Shipments of aluminum products were 2.6% (seasonally adjusted) from the same month in 2024.
