EU Announces Provisional Duties On Some Chinese Aluminum Products

The European Union (EU) has announced that it has placed provisional antidumping duties on some aluminum flat-rolled products coming from China. The duty rates range from 19.6 percent to 47.3 percent.

Flat rolled aluminum imports from China in the EU increased from 171 kilotons in 2016 to approximately 330 kilotons last year. In 2020, the market share of these imports from China reached more than 12 percent and was twice the level it was five years ago.

The duties will take effect on April 15, 2021 and the EU’s investigation into this matter will continue until October 2021. According to European Aluminum, at that point, the duties likely will be “confirmed as definitive.” If they are confirmed, they would likely be in place for five years.
