Aluminum Gains as Steel Softness Persists Across North America
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill
MSCI Metals Activity for October 2025 presents a mixed picture across North American service centers. In the United States, steel shipments fell 2.5% year-over-year while aluminum edged up 1.0%, both seasonally adjusted. Canada showed a similar split: steel shipments declined 4.8% even as aluminum rose 4.0%. Together, the results point to ongoing steel softness alongside modest, broadening improvement in aluminum demand.
U.S. Service Center Activity
U.S. service center steel shipments in October 2025 were -2.5% (seasonally adjusted) from October 2024. Shipments of aluminum products were +1.0% (seasonally adjusted) from the same month in 2024.
Canadian Service Center Activity
Canadian service center steel shipments in October 2025 were -4.8% (seasonally adjusted) from October 2024. Shipments of aluminum products were +4.0% (seasonally adjusted) from the same month in 2024.
