Canada Vaccine Mandate For Cross-Border Truckers Goes Into Effect; U.S. Mandate Coming Soon

This past Saturday, January 15, the Canadian Border Services Agency implemented a policy that said unvaccinated U.S. truckers cannot cross the U.S.-Canada border.

The organization Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters had asked the government to delay the mandate, arguing that it will add to an already-problematic 23,000 trucker shortage. In a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the organization argued the mandate could reduce the available workforce by 20 percent.

The Canadian government announced the mandate back in November. Find more information about travel here.

The United States will soon add similar restrictions on Canadian truckers. Those rules are expected to take effect on January 22, 2022.
