- Coming soon: Canadian Industry Minister Melanie Joly said the national government will soon announce measures to clamp down on steel dumping from foreign countries and to help domestic manufacturers that have been affected by U.S. trade penalties. “We cannot accept any form of unfair practices from different countries when it comes to our Canadian market. That’s enough,” she told reporters on June 11. “We’ll make sure to take strong measures to protect our market.” Read more at the Financial Post.
- Chinese steelmakers increased steel exports 1.1 percent from April 2025 to May 2025, and 9.9 percent between May 2024 and May 2025, to 10.58 million tons. The May exports were at a seven-month high, and May was the third month in a row where export volume exceeded 10 million tons. Steel imports to China were down 24.5 percent year-over-year, meanwhile. For the first five months of the years, exports increased 8.9 percent from the same period in 2024 while imports were down 16.1 percent. Read more at this link.
