- As The Wall Street Journal reported last week, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said his government is currently negotiating a “new bilateral economic-and-security deal” with U.S. officials. “We’ve made a lot of progress,” Prime Minister Carney said. The prime minister said his goal is for the United States and Canada to agree on a new bilateral pact in the coming months that removes the hefty tariffs. “I don’t think it’s in either of our nation’s interests for it to drag out,” he argued. - In its annual analysis of the global steel market, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) said the global steel industry “faces persistent challenges that are likely to intensify through 2025 and beyond. Planned capacity expansions risk deepening global excess capacity amid sluggish demand growth.” The OECD added, “Capacity utilization could fall, intensifying downward pressure on prices and profitability,” and noted competition continues to be distorted by subsidies particularly in China.
