What happens abroad impacts MSCI members in North America. Here is the latest economic, trade, and other policy news of note for the last week:

  • As Fastmarkets reported, the European Commission is preparing a plan that would restrict aluminum scrap exports from its region. Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič confirmed the move on Nov. 18, saying the commission has started preliminary work on a new measure aimed at tackling “scrap leakage.” The plan is expected to be finalized and adopted in spring 2026. European Union aluminum scrap exports reached a record 1.26 million tons in 2024. That number was about 50 percent higher than the rate of exports from five years earlier.
