Make Your Voice Heard In Favor Of National Skills Training

As Connecting the Dots readers are well aware, over the past two years, Congress has approved significant new funding to improve the nation’s infrastructure. This spending will spur hundreds of new projects to rebuild roads and bridges, expand broadband, and upgrade public transit, utility, and clean energy systems.

However, as the National Skills Coalition argues, investing in hard infrastructure is not enough. Federal lawmakers also must ensure the country has a skilled workforce that can build these projects.

That is why the coalition is asking individuals to sign a petition to members of Congress asking that they enact policies aimed at training the next generation of workers. Specifically, the petition asks federal and state policymakers to:

  • Expand access to skills training offered through registered apprenticeship programs and workforce programs at community and technical colleges;
  • Invest in industry partnerships and support companies’ capacity to engage in equity-advancing practices;
  • Provide financial support to make skills training and career transitions possible; and
  • Incentivize and support training, hiring, and career advancement of local residents.
