Steel Gains in U.S. While Canada Shipments Plunge
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill
MSCI Metals Activity for the month of April 2025 indicates a mixed trend in steel and aluminum shipments across the US and Canada. In the United States, steel shipments inched up while aluminum declines persisted, as compared to the same month in 2024. The slide in Canadian service center activity continued with double digit decreases in steel and aluminum shipments over the same period.
U.S. Service Center Activity
U.S. service center steel shipments in April 2025 were +1.1% (seasonally adjusted) from April 2024. Shipments of aluminum products were -10.6% (seasonally adjusted) from the same month in 2024.
Canadian Service Center Activity
Canadian service center steel shipments in April 2025 were -16.3% (seasonally adjusted) from April 2024. Shipments of aluminum products were -17.9% (seasonally adjusted) from the same month in 2024.
