U.S. States Delay Tax Filing Deadlines
As Connecting the Dots mentioned previously, the federal government has delayed its annual federal tax filing deadline until July 15, 2020. State policymakers also are making delays. The American Association of Certified Public Accountants is tracking these developments here.
The National Association of Governors is tracking all state actions regarding COVID-19 here while the National Council of State Legislatures is tracking them here.
On a related note: the Internal Revenue Service’s Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) remains operational at the local level and taxpayers in need of assistance should visit the TAS website here to locate the appropriate local office phone number. Note that TAS has suspended walk-in services and their toll-free centralized number until further notice. Contacting a local office is the most effective way to get assistance at this time.
